Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Schemers groups.
Fans can look forward to learning which players will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
