The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category Could Fix That

Each time a significant awards ceremony approaches, one notices a clamor for the addition of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications actually cover numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles globally and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
