Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's initial championship after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from March of 2023.

Success also means he has won 21 victories at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, including in that event previously this season.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, backed up by an better service.

He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

Moutet defended 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
